Kelowna Paddle Centre Saturday Sept 15th

Saturday Sept 15 at 9am team telemark will be headed onto Okanagan Lake at the Kelowna Paddle Centre. This is a fun cross training opportunity for team telemark athletes. Paddling uses many of the same muscles as xc skiing, it challenges the same energy systems and when you wipe out it hurts a lot less than roller skiing : ) Many Norwegians, Finns, Swedes and Danes paddle for cross training for xc skiing!

Fill out this online form by noon on Friday so we know numbers. Choose OTHER and then enter TELEMARK Click here for the form. There is a fee of $15 each which includes boat paddle and life jacket. The fee can be payed by cash, visa or a cheque made out to Kelowna Paddle Centre.

Bring: clothes to be in the water in (swim suit/shorts, thermal top (like a top you would race in), a towel, work out clothes, warm change of clothes. water shoes (optional), waterbottle and snack.

Agenda
  • Warm up and explanation of stroke and how to get ski’s in and out the water and some safety info (getting in if fall out etc).
  • On water warm up and some stroke practice – 10 min
  • Workout – 45 min
  • Cool Down and skis put away.
  • Change into dry clothes (if cold and weather not sunny and warm)
  • Gym work out – chin ups, body weights, agility

Big thanks to Sandy, Greg and the Kelowna Paddle Centre for making this opportunity for our team.

FUNtastics 2018

This Saturday is the end of the year FUNtasticks for league!
This is an opportunity for our T2T skiers to participate and interact with the 8+ league group. We are looking for some volunteer T2Ters to help out with stations and teams.

League kids will be on CLASSIC skis. The theme is UNDER THE SEA. To help out with these stations or to lead a team just show up…in costume.

20 min per stations. The fun starts at 10:30 setup at 10am.
1. Three legged ski – starts at the bottom of the hill near the exit from squirrel to behind the washrooms.
2. Word scramble treasure hunt – up squirrel and back out the race trails ending at the top of the speed trap.
3. Speed trap – the usual.
4. Slalom relay – meet at the top of the toboggan hill

The team will also be doing gourmet hotdog sales so bring $$ and a healthy appetite.

There will also be bunny-JR2 stations and groups to help with if we are overwhelmed with eager volunteers.

Any questions talk to coach Deepa

Beginner Wax Dec 6th / Advanced Waxing Dec 13th

December 6th we will be at Telemark. We will hold a parent beginner wax information session and demonstration during regular Tuesday practice time (6-7:30pm) in the chalet while the kids are skiing. Learn about what equipment and waxes to buy, ski prep, glide waxing, grip waxing, hard wax, klister and more. Get your waxing questions answered in a friendly, supportive atmosphere. If you don’t know what half of those terms mean…this is the session for you. If you know what the are but want to learn more about how to use them…come join us. If you know what all of those things are, how to use them, what different colours of waxes mean and have strong opinions about them…then you should be attending an advanced session or teaching this one.

On Dec 13th there will be an advanced waxing clinic for coaches and parents wanting to assist with waxing at races.  Emphasis on waxing in a uniform and timely manner.  All coaches and those in our ‘waxing pool’ need to attend and will be contacted.  6-7:30pm.  The older skiers will be put to the ultimate test…coaching the JR / TJR and TR1 groups.

JD Practice Nov 22 and into December

The calendar has been updated for the JD practice tomorrow which will be 6pm at Knox Mountain. Please see the calendar entry in purple for more details.

We will be setting the December calendar shortly. Many of our practices and locations through early December will be dependent on snow conditions so please check the website regularly for updates. Over the Winter holidays there will be opportunities for skiing that may not follow our regular scheduling. We recognize that people have family in town and are away so just make the ones you can!
