Party in Rossland Booked

Hello,  Tom has booked the following for Rossland.  Olaus House 5 bed 3 bathroom sleeps 10-14.  White Wolf Chalet 4 bed 3 bathroom sleeps 8-10.  base of Red mtn short walk between and walk to Black Jack Trails.   I’m thinking that guys and boys and wives (if they want) can stay in the Olaus house.  And ladies and girls can stay in White Wolf.  We can use Olaus as a food prep and dinner spot.   Breakfasts are on your own.  Lunch on own, but I think we can pot luck a soup  or chill to be on the stove for lunch/afternoon snacks.  Friday dinner on your own because we will probably be arriving at different times but talk with other people so we are sharing.  Saturday lets do a large potluck with everyone at the Olaus.

I was quoted 400 a nite for each place.  If we add it up and divide by total bodies in both, I  think that would be fair.  We might have some kids sleeping on the floor but that is okay.  I slept on the living room floor at Callaghan Nationals, cause that was better than the couch with 3 teenagers in the room.  If it looks like we are too crowded, we can add another ” White Wolf” chalet .  Please talk to others about car pooling. I know Christine Campbell (Hugh) is interested in sharing ride.

Please email me if I have made an error or you want to be included.

Reminders for a Busy Upcoming Week

Lots of things happening in the next few days. Thought I would group them all up as a reminder for you. Click each item for a link to the details:

Fresh Air Experience Telemark Race Team Buy Night

When: Wednesday, October 29th; 6pm-9pm.

Where: Fresh Air Experience on Harvey

Once again, Fresh Air Experience is holding a special night for Telemark Nordic Club race teams! This will allow parents to purchase Nordic ski equipment for our x-c athletes and our biathletes.  Special pricing is available to Telemark Junior Development, Telemark Racing 1, and Telemark Racing 2 x-c athletes, and Bears, Development, and Advanced biathletes. So pull those skis and boots out of your storage and see if it is time to replace them (don’t wait for the snow to fall…).

Fresh Air has upped their nordic race buy significantly with the goal to satisfy the equipment needs for the local cross-country and biathlon teams.  You will see an expanded selection of equipment from Fischer, Salomon, Rossignol and Madshus.  In addition to club pricing on equipment they will have great deals on wax benches, jigs, waxes and irons.

To help deliver top level service ex-National Biathlon Team Member Chris Halldorson has joined the sales team.  Chris was also head coach of the Chelsea Nordic Ski Club from 2006 – 2010; his experience in equipment selection and wax/tool knowledge is very extensive.  Fresh Air is very excited to have Chris on board!

Chat and Chow with a Canadian XC Olympian!

Dan RoycroftSunday afternoon we are all getting together at Paul’s house to chat and chow down with Canadian Olympian and former Canadian National XC Team member Dan Roycroft.  Dan raced around the world for Canada including the 2006 Torino games.  Please come and learn what your future holds, what it means to compete at a really high level.

Dan still races “recreationally” in Canmore and he also happens to be the owner of Zone4, so his XC race chops are still way up there.

Arrive at 4:00 to participate in Dan’s presentation and stay for pot luck dinner if you wish.

CycloCraaawws Help Needed

Jon Sader2Paul and Barry are getting nervous.  Our CycloCraaawws race is only 6 days away and we have 24 unfilled positions.  We are worried we will not have enough people to host our race!  If you are for sure coming, please click here and tell us so we can sleep better!  If you are on the fence, think of this like tree planting except much closer, much shorter time commitment, and comes with great food and great music.  This fundraiser is, for the team, roughly on par with tree planting.  And it is OUR race and it is a ton of fun to participate in.

These are the positions we need to fill:

  1. Course construction: 1-2 hours Saturday evening — putting up traffic tape to mark the course, setting up jumps and barriers. Click here to volunteer for course construction.
  2. Course Marshal:  Repair damage to the things that define the course (tape and stakes) as they get caught up in pedals, etc.  The exception to this is the childrens’ races, where some of the marshals help the athletes get over the barriers. Minimum 1 hour commitment.  Click here to volunteer for a course marshal spot.
  3. Timing:  Calling and/or entering numbers at the start/finish line.  These lucky folks will get a sneak peak at the new not-yet-released Zone4 race timing system!  Minimum 1 hour commitment. Click here to volunteer for a timing spot.
  4. Coarse Teardown:  Obvious, I think.  1/2 hour.  Click here to volunteer for a course teardown spot.

Interested in trying CycloCross?  There is lots of time to facilitate you working a shift before or after your race.  There are Open (recreational) and Elite classes for each gender and age.  Cost is $5 for 13 and under / $25 for adult.  A ton of draw prizes for all racers, plus a tasty treat for the winners of the under 14 races.

9:30 – 10:50: Registration.

11:00 – 11:40:  Mens’ Open, Womens’ Elite, Womens’ Open, and Under 17 Open.  Bring any bike, though I would not recommend using your carbon fiber road bike.

12:00 – 12:15:  Ages 3-13 Open.  Run bikes are fine. Very short course.  Adults help athletes get bikes over the barriers.

12:20 – 1:00:  Under 12 Elite.

1:15 – 2:00: Mens’ sport and elite,  Under 17 elite.

Salomon 38 Skate Boots

For new athletes just joining the team:  I have a special deal for a lucky athlete who needs a pair of size 38 skate boots.  Please contact me if you are interested.

Uniform Exchange Event Change and Other Schedule Changes

The uniform exchange has been POSTPONED one week to OCT 21ST, and will now be held our sponsor Kelowna Manual Therapy Centre,  1934 Ambrosi Rd.

Directions: Ambrosi runs north-south between Spall and Cooper.  By car it is most easily reached by turning right off of Highway 97 northbound, or by turning right off of Springfield westbound.  The best way to get there is by bike – ask me for the sneak route if you’re interested!

Ps. Adam will also be available to assess the ski equipment that you have at the end of practise so that you will know if new or used stuff is required before the ski swap. Pole Length and Ski camber can be tested easily if you bring skis which are scraped clean of grip and glide wax.

Other Changes to the Schedule

So since we have moved the Parent Meeting and Uniform Exchange to October 21st we also changed the practise location to the same location for JDs and TR1s will also meet at Kelowna Manual Therapy Centre at 6pm instead of Rose Valley. Older skiers will be participating in the XC Running Valley Championships that day so will not require additional training.

On October the 14th all groups will run from Rose Valley Elementary School. TR1 and JDs at 6pm. the older TR2s at 5pm

Thanks, Adam
